The Iron Giant
Weekend nights for us means no clubs, no homework, usually a play date... winding up with a family film. Bliss.
Things have been busy at Kinfo HQ. We're working on new app features and developing existing ones (see the weekly events and podcasts on our app) to help attract and send the best recommendations right to your fingertips.
Grab the popcorn!
See you all next week.
Nine years since its predecessor landed the 4th and final Toy Story and it's a Pixar/Walt Disney best. They've ended the franchise on a high (via some sad moments and a fond farewell) and £1 billion in the bank – which is a world record for animations. "A lovely feel-good film with heart and some hilarious moments," says a mum of 1.
An animation suitable for all ages with "lots of fun and colour." Dreamworks tale is about an ingenious talking dog and his human sidekick who work hard to avert disaster. The storyline includes a subplot on bullying. Recommended by a mum.
Head to South Ken for a 6 minute introduction to the US moon landing, with interesting facts and 4D special FX, produced alongside former NASA Apollo astronaut, David R Scott. Only £4 entry, but don't make a special journey, tag it on to your museum visit. Then, if the kids are vibed up on space chat, get hold of the Apollo 11/Armstrong feature documentaries.
Marine life as never seen before. Thanks to Sir David Attenborough, our understanding of the world beneath the waves has changed for the better. Good news! Planet 3 is due out in 2020 and will be “the most ambitious natural history landmark ever undertaken by the BBC”. In the meantime, indulge in the series of the century. Recommended by a mum of 3.
Good for tweens and teens, says this parent. "Inspiring, moving and funny." A true story of one man's triumph over adversity would be underselling it. Part fiction, part true story and a surprising reminder of how far the Brits passion for skiing has developed.
Tell the kids that their pets get up to all sorts of mischief while they're at school and they'll probably believe you. This fun-filled film will confirm any doubts. Recommended by a mum of 2 who describes action-packed frolics in the countryside.
Widely perceived as being better than the first film, join the super-powers as they chase more bad guys, forever working as a family (following a few initial misunderstandings, that is). "As good as the reviews say!" writes a mum of 1.
The 1999 release based on the Iron Man story fast became a cult classic and is recommended on Kinfo by a dad. Set in the 50s, the plot involves an alien robot who crashes down to earth, losing his memory, and ends up saving the town. The message being, humanity wins!
The latest Disney animation to be given a live-action CGI make-over was released this summer, to mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the original 1994 animated film. A quick online search suggests this will be out on DVD next month - click the link to pre-order. Beyonce is on voice-over duties, which is major. It's had mixed reviews but our Kinfo mum loved it.
