"Come on, mum, play with me!"

Happy New Year to all of you!

Wow! You've made it through the festive season! A few bugs and a few extra kilos later, we are back at our desks too.

For those of you who are new here, this is a weekly bulletin where we handpick a few recommendations shared by parents and carers on Kinfo app. More recommendations are in the app, and more newsletters are on our website, here.

We know that kids love to play. Let them play. More. They need it. And if what they do sometimes raises eyebrows (we know pirates don't really fight in high heels), know that pretending to be someone else is purely... science (see below for an interesting article on that topic).

This week we have selected toys and games that parents have said their kids play with a lot. Not just for 3 minutes on Christmas Day.

Oh, and why don't you share toys and games that your kids have enjoyed? Each time you share a recommendation on Kinfo, you will earn 10 points. And when you reach 100 points we will send you an Amazon voucher to spend onKinfo.

Want to try?

Thinking Putty

Sometimes it's the little things that make the best time-fillers. Crazy Aaron's putty is certainly one of the best toys that one parent's kids have been playing since Christmas, we are told. Magnetic and captivating.

Doug & Melissa Pizza Set

A top favourite toy that 2 siblings have been playing with for a long time. Their mum, who recommends it on Kinfo, says it is fun and educational. Bingo! You child will be counting in halves and thirds before you even realise it.

Jake and The Never Land Pirates

Want a toy that a child can play with for hours and take everywhere? Perhaps this pirate ship is the answer. It is for a mum of an adventurer who has been playing with it for months. "The perfect toy to encourage your little one to do more imaginative self-play." We trust her.

If you have kids and teens to entertain, this game is for you. Each player draws a card that assigns them a secret role. If you are the werewolf, you attack villagers during the night when everyone's eyes are closed. But if you are the little girl, you won't sleep during the night, so you'll see who the werewolf is. But no one is allowed to listen to children...

Just Dance

This dad of 3 was sceptical about this game at first, but completely endorses it now. His kids have had fun. Even if you don't buy the extra titles, there is plenty of music to dance to. Check the online reviews to ensure it's for you, but in essence it's good for coordination and exercise. So, let's dance!

Handled Microphone iRig

Let your kids pretend to be superstar singers at home. A mum of 3 recommends this because it is really simple to use and looks so professional. With so many different varieties of mics on the market, it's good to know which one to buy, right?

We have partnered with Leetchi, which means you will now see their logo at the bottom of purchasable recommendations on Kinfo app. Leetchi is a personal fundraising and group gifting website devised to help anyone whose friends and families ask for present suggestions, or anyone looking to fund a big gift.

By clicking on the red icon, you directly access your online money pot that enables you to securely collect money for a collective gift. It is super easy to set up and you can invite anyone to chip in.

Say goodbye to unused gifts! In this age, that prioritises recycling over waste, surely it's a good thing?

Let the Children Play, It’s Good for Them!

A leading researcher in the field of cognitive development says when children pretend, they’re not just being silly – they’re "doing science".
